Who cares if he starts the opener or not? Get your ace healthy and ready to be at 100%...don't rush him just for Day One.Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee hinted Monday that Cole Hamels (elbow) might not make his regular season debut until April 10.
"There's a good chance he won't pitch Opening Day," Dubee said. "It's a very, very, very small shot, if at all. But saying that isn't saying he can't pitch the fourth game of the season and not miss a start." Hamels will pitch Tuesday, as previously reported, but Dubee wants him to fit in at least two additional starts before the Phillies begin playing games that count. That won't be possible if he's slated to start on Opening Day, April 5.
