Avoiding arbitration. Here is a story: Phillies Sign Werth to a Multiyear Contract
Personally, I like this deal. He brings a lot of energy to the team and is likely going to get a lot of playing time in the outfield this season.

Seems like a lot of money for Werth. I mean, he's a good player, but to make 7 million dollars in 2010? Maybe it's just me, but it seems high.
He did hit 24 home runs in 418 ABs last year so he could hit 30 in a complete season and he's a possible .280-.285 hitter. His OBP isn't too bad either. And he can run. I'd say its worth it.
I don't know about 30. I mean a complete season is only like 100 more AB's, and this past season was a career year, so it's tough to base a contract on the first year a player ever met their expectations.
Well last year he had a home run once every 17.4 ABs meaning he would have only needed 104 more ABs to hit 30. But yeah, I guess we will just have to wait and see if he can keep it up.
