A second opinion from orthopedist Lewis Yocum confirmed that Tom Gordon will likely miss the rest of the season with multiple arm injuries.
He has an injury to his ulnar collateral ligament, an injury to a muscle on the inside of the elbow, irritation to his ulnar nerve and a small piece of bone that has pulled away from his elbow. Gordon has chosen rehab instead of surgery, and will wear a brace for three weeks before being re-evaluated. If he does ultimately need surgery, it will be Tommy John.
It's likely the Phillies will buy out his $4.5 million option for $1 million after this season.
