This isn't very good news for the Phillies who traded for him this offseason. Lidge had surgery on his knee back in October to repair cartilage. The Phillies need Lidge to keep Myers in the rotation. Gordon is good for a week or two but is better suited as a setup guy at his age.Brad Lidge will undergo another surgery on his right knee Monday after catching a spike on Saturday and is expected to miss 3-6 weeks.
According to Lidge, an MRI on Sunday MRI showed "no big, new tears, nothing substantially wrong. But enough on the medial side of the knee that would warrant a scope. We're going to do a scope and clean out some of the small tears and get that done with, so it won't bother me during the season." We doubt this is serious enough to cause the Phillies to rethink putting Brett Myers back into the rotation, though with Kyle Lohse still out there as a free agent, we wouldn't rule anything out. Tom Gordon would be the favorite to close with Lidge seemingly likely to miss the first week or two of the season.
