The Oakland A's in cooperation with the American Red Cross will be hosting a Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund collection at McAfee Coliseum for this weekend's three-game series against the New York Yankees to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

"Our hearts go out to all those who have been dealing with the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina," said A's President Michael Crowley. "Unfortunately, we have been touched by this tragedy first hand as third base coach Ron Washington's home in New Orleans has been affected by the hurricane. Luckily Ron's family safely evacuated the city. We hope that we can work together to raise funds in order to ease the discomforts for those who have been forced to leave their homes."
It's nice to see the A's doing what they can. Obviously, they can't really donate as much money as the Yankees, but every little bit helps and it all adds up.
