Geren's Gone!!!

The Athletics have fired manager Bob Geren and named Bob Melvin interim manager.
This comes as somewhat of a surprise, as Geren and Billy Beane are longtime friends. It's not like the Athletics' lineup is going to suddenly start hitting as a result of this decision, but Geren had clearly lost some members of the clubhouse. The Athletics enter play Thursday losers of nine consecutive games and currently sit in last place in the American League East with a 27-36 record. Geren finishes his tenure in Oakland with a 334-376 record (.470) over 4 1/2 seasons as skipper.

I think this was the right move to make. The players really didn't seem to like him much but I don't view Melvin as any better but I guess he will have to do for now. I still have hope for this team even though they have lost 9 straight. I picked this team to finish first in the West but so far the offense has looked like shit. Barton, Ellis, Matsui, DeJesus, Kouzmanoff and Crisp have been real disappointments.

The best thing about Barton is always going to be his defense. Ellis and Matsui are way passed their prime. DeJesus has been a huge disappointment. Kouzmanoff could never hit and the best thing about Crisp this season was his afro. That being said Geren was up shit's creek without a paddle way before this time.

Not Beane's fault that Braden, Anderson, McCarthy and Ross have hit the DL and Barton forgot how to get on base. Lots of disappointment and underachieving all around that A's clubhouse.
