Player Ellis agrees to multi-year contract

ESPN - Oakland 2B Ellis agrees to re-sign with multiyear contract - MLB

Oakland Athletics second baseman Mark Ellis has agreed to a multiyear deal to re-sign with the team, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

"I'm very excited," Ellis said by phone from his Arizona home Saturday, according to the newspaper. "Oakland has been a very good place for me and my family, and it's really a big relief to be back there."
I can't find specifics, but I'd guess it's a 2 years deal with a possible option for a 3rd year. He was injured and had a down year offensively, but is still an above average defensive 2B.

update: Ellis will receive a two-year deal that will guarantee him between $10 million to $11 million, with incentives and an option for 2011 that could bring the total value of the deal to something close to $18 million, a source told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

Not a bad deal at all. Looks like Patterson will have to find a new position.

Patterson isn't starting material IMHO...he'll be a backup if he makes the team out of ST. The 2 - 3 year deal allows Cardenas time to develop. He should be ready in that time.
