So we lost yesterday 3-1. I was at the game (and got a kick ass Suzuki bobble-head) but we lost. The only real highlight was the homer by Cust in like the seventh inning. Here's the rest series:
6-7-08
Garland vs Smith
After a great May, Garland struggled to get through five innings while allowing three runs against the Jays. The A's knocked him around when we faced him earlier, but we lost the game. Garland is 3-9 in 14 career starts against the A's, but he really hasn't pitched all that bad (3.86 ERA). Smith had his worst outing by far last Sunday against the Rangers, when he allowed seven runs in five innings. He was more unlucky than anything, because many of the hits were bloops that just eluded the fielders. Smith's best asset is his control on the running game, which will be key in this game and the rest of the series.
6-8-08
Santana vs Harden
Santana had another solid outing, going 7 2/3 while allowing 2 runs in a winning effort against the Mariners. He's 8-1 in 11 career outings against the A's, and he is looking to build upon that. Harden got his second straight no-decision, despite pitching seven strong innings while allowing only 2 runs. Harden did not face the Angels at all last year, but is 5-3 in his career with a 3.95 ERA and looks to finally get a (winning) decision.
So we lost game on 3-1. The Angels didn't run at all yesterday. Blanton allowed a leadoff homerun to Izturis, which set the tone for the game. Hopefully we can get a win tonite and even up the series. I'll be there, so look for me in the LF bleachers with the rest of my gang.
