Anyone else excited about Dan Meyer's A's debut tonight?

Woot woot I'll be there! Geren seemed to be pretty confident in Meyer, and you could be your bottom dollar that I'm psyched he's pitching!
Let's Go Oakland!!!
Um yeah........
Why does Geren insist on playing Cust in the field? That 1st inning happened all because of that...poor Dan Meyer...only 3 of those runs are earned.
Cust dropped the a fly ball hit by the 1st batter of the game. He ended up on 2nd.
Gaudin gave up a 3-run homer already...3 - 0 after 2 innings tonight.
The hapless A's lose again (after winning 4 in a row coming into this series) to the hapless Royals...7 - 3 tonight.
My best guess is that it lets both Cust and Piazza play in the game. If Cust plays in the OF, the Piazza can DH. IMO, neither of them are good fielders, but Geren would probably want to have a younger guy in the field than an older one (Cust over Piazza). Geren is really set on letting both guys get ABs and get some chances to score some runs in the game. It doesn't seem that he's very concerned about defense as he is scoring runs...but hey, I may be wrong.
Oh, I know that's why he puts him out there...it was more of a sarcastic/rhetorical question...he really shouldn't sacrifice the defense for the potential of some offense. IMHO, the really screwed Meyer and the team up...we never recovered from that. I realize Meyer wasn't on, but outside of that inning he only gave up 2 runs and would have been able to pitch more than 4 innings (he threw a ton of pitches in that 1st inning).
3 - 0 A's in the bottom of the 6th. Scutaro and Johnson have both homered. Stewart tripled and scored on a SF for the 1st run. DiNardo is dealing.
