Will Jason Windsor be ready to step in and take a spot in the rotation or does he need another part of a year in Sacramento? What do the A's do with Daric Barton? Will he push Swisher into the DH slot in a couple of years, or will he do the job?
Sign a starting pitcher
Resign Frank Thomas
Sign Swisher and Street to long-term deals
Make a huge trade to improve the offense
Replace Macha

And buy the team. Remember, Connie Mack was the owner as well. That's why he managed for 50 years. No one could fire him.Originally Posted by Providence A's

Barton will be in AAA to start the year and probably the whole year unless he destroys AAA pitching...he was injured most of last season.
Windsor will compete for a spot, but right now Harden, Haren, Blanton, Loaiza, and Kennedy.

incorrect, he signed an extension to avoid arbitration dummyAnother pitching-heavy team, Oakland, could be a trade partner. The A's say Dan Haren, who is eligible for salary arbitration after going 14-13 with a 4.12 ERA in 2006, is available for the right deal.

I wouldn't mind Reed, but he doesn't appear to be in the Mariner's plans really...seems to have fallen out of favor. I'd give a spec or two, but not Blanton, Haren, or Harden for sureThe A's reportedly have some interest in acquiring Jeremy Reed from the Mariners.
Seattle asked for John Danks back from the Rangers in discussions regarding Reed earlier this month. The A's might be willing to do something with Joe Blanton, but Rich Harden and Dan Haren should be off limits in a Reed trade.

I agree. Blanton seems like too much to offer back to the Mariners for Reed. He is a better than average fielder, but not much of a stick. That would be a bad trade for the A's, IMO!
I think he's crazy to go there; that place is death valley for pitchers. So yes I think Boras is driving up the price.Originally Posted by Providence A's

Yeah, some of these teams must have just won the lottery or something.. Many, I agree, Payton is NOT worth that much. This soending is going to come back and bite the fans right in the a**!!!! And I for one, do NOT want to pay for tickets and go watch overpaid average ball players play. I have a t.v. for that!
hey, could be worse...you could live in NE and pay the highest baseball ticket prices in MLB...damn Red Sox
The A's signed Durazo to a minor league contract with an invite to ST.
Billy Beane hasn't quite given up yet huh?Originally Posted by Providence A's

Durazo is a low risk move...he can't DH with Piazza so I read that it may be to give Johnson a push at 1B...if Durazo does well, they could trade Johnson I suppose.
Merry Christmas fellow A's fanatic.
finally, Zito is signed...to the Giants. We should be getting a decent draft pick from them for that!
I'm not all that happy about it only because the local media will already be crowning the Giants world champs .
The Giants won't be winning anything
On another note, supposedly the Mets are interested in trading for a pitcher again. One article I read said the A's would deal Blanton, but that Haren and Harden would be very hard to get. One had said the Mets offered Milledge and Heilman for Harden and Beane said no thanks.
