Zito will get zero run support but will have the best start of the season. It happened when the M's faced Garland, he was perfect thru 6.

2003 Hybrid World Champion (115-47 reg season, 11-4 playoffs)

MSL: St Louis Cardinals 2013-present (2734-2936 regular season, 5 division titles, 2 championships)
TSSL: Seattle Mariners 2006-2029, Pittsburgh Pirates 2030-present (209-277, 5 division titles w/SEA, 1 championship w/SEA)
^ that happened in his start against the Angels...he went 8, gave up 2 runs and lost
I copied this post from the main forum on the A's board only because I think it is spot on regarding Chavez:
35349.12 in reply to 35349.5
An A's fan who tells it like it is. Thanks Frankie.
Here's why he's a waste:
- He is not clutch. You can spin numbers anyway you want, but can you come up with any memorable moments from this guy?? His playoff production is nothing short of pathetic.
-He is a guess hitter. He waves at more curveballs than any supposed superstar I know. He can't hit 300, his HRs come at moments that don't make a difference. Again, he comes up small in clutch situations.
-No passion. Always downplaying rivalries or bad blood.
This why Tejada should have been the player Beane kept:
-Comes up big when needed, who can forget his clutch hits over the Labor Day weekend that extended the 20 gm winning streak.
- excellent defensively
-Plays with passion, desire, commitment. Things Chavez will never have.
-Hits for power, average, clutch.
-Inspires teammates.
To say Chavez is the best 3B in the league is Beane covering his a zz. He doesn't come close to Rolen.
Beane blew it.
BTW ABG, I see what you mean about that board. A lot of arguing and people going at each others throats.
Weird.
this is going to be a very long season IMHO...
It pains me to say it, with Chavy being my favorite player and all but all that is 100% true. But Chavy's still young, I hope he can develop that leadership quality and clutch ability.Originally Posted by A'sDiehard

That should be an interesting matchup on Friday

Got it circled on my calender. It's gonna be on TBS. Can't wait. I wonder if one will get a hit off the other.Originally Posted by DirtyKash

This guy is a butcher when it comes to defense. He is a lousy defensive player. I am shocked how Long regressed as a player over the years.
why the hell do we have an off day in the middle of a homestand? why not after the homestand as a travel day!?!? We really got screwed with the schedule this year...travelling the most miles and stupid things like this...just another exampls of how awesome outsourcing of jobs is (mlb outsources the schedule, takes bids, and picks the "best" one)
I may need a Kotsay sig if this keeps up. That guy is money.
Kots is so underrated it's unbelieveable. Thank you thank you thank you San Diego.
Great, we just got thumped and swept by the Rangers and now we get ready for 12 in a row against the Yank-Me's and Red Sux. Fantastic. Why do I get the feeling those two teams are about to get healthy against the hapless A's? I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but this is where the downfall begins and players start getting traded.
*ugh*
I agree ADH. A's fans better brace themselves for a very disappointing stretch. I've been reading that Macha is thinking of tweaking the rotation so that Zito and Harden pitch 6 of those games. I don't know how smart that is. I don't think Harden has pitched well against either of those teams in his career.
