New York Yankees 2016 Season Thread

Season starts on Monday against the Astros and Kuechel. Sabathia will be awarded the 5th spot in rotation to start the season. He may not keep that spot for the whole year but it's his to lose for now. The rest of the rotation will look like this -
1) Tanaka 2) Pineda 3) Eovaldi 4) Severino 5) Sabathia.

One other note that will be interesting to watch for is how exactly Girardi is going to fill the lineup card out. He benched Ellsbury last year and I wonder if the same thing could happen will Keuchel on the mound. I wouldn't be surprised if the switch hitting, Aaron Hicks gets the start on Monday.

Betances with the unusual horrible outing.. Ken Giles gave up a lead off HR to Didi but has been able to bounce back and get the last two. He didn't have a very good spring so it will be interesting to see if he can eventually earn the closer role in Houston.

It was a frigid and fruitless day for the Yankees. With the 5-3 loss to the Astros, the Yankees have now lost five straight Opening Days in a row. This year was ugly as All-Star setup man Dellin Betances blew the game in the eighth. There was some controversy as Joe Girardi threw a fit in in the inning after complaining the go-ahead run came home on a play the Yankee manager featured a runner leaving the baseline. This caused Girardi to place the game under a protest, which he will surely lose. So one game into their season, the Yankees already trail the Blue Jays by 1 1/2 game.

Jacoby Ellsbury, who has been an awful free agent signing for the Yankees so far, lost what appeared to be an easy fly ball that would have been the second out of the fourth inning. It was ruled a one-out hit for J.D. Martinez because Ellsbury didn't even touch it. It opened up the door for the Tigers to score two runs off Luis Severino in the fourth to lead 3-0. Ellsbury, just in the third season of his seven-year, $153 million, has been an invisible man as a Yankee since signing before the 2014 season.

I could not agree more with this statement.

Severino pitched decent today.. Would have liked to see him throw another inning or two but finished with 5 strikeouts against a solid Detroit lineup.

Me too on Castro... he sort of got pushed out by the Cubs after being their shining star for a few years. The only one.

I would love it if he could keep up this kind of production throughout the year. I wish so bad we could somehow get rid of Ellsbury.

Is there anybody else here that can't stand the radio hosts and TV broadcasters for the Yankees? OR am I alone on that one? Why can't Vin Scully work for the Yankees..
