According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the Yankees have signed Freddy Garcia to a minor league contract.
Not much of a surprise, given his comments earlier in the day. He will earn a $1.5 million salary if he makes the team and has a chance at an additional $3.6 million based on games started, topping out at 30 starts. Garcia, 34, posted a 4.64 ERA over 157 innings with the White Sox last season, his highest such total since the 2006 season. We like Garcia better than the recently-signed Bartolo Colon, but that isn't saying much. As of now, he'll compete with Colon, Ivan Nova and Sergio Mitre for one of the final two spots in the starting rotation.
