It's not a 5% difference. It's a 20% difference. 5 (the difference between 22 and 27) is about 1/5 of 27. 1/5 translates to 20%. Therefore it's about 20% difference between 27% and 22%.

last season Swisher struck out 135 times in 588 PA, which is 22.95 percent of the time (135 / 588 x 100).

25.19% - 22.95% = 2.24% difference in strikeout rate. If Swisher maintained his k rate and had as many PA as Dunn, then he would have struck out 149 times vs Dunn's 164. They both strike out a lot with Dunn striking out slightly more.

and statistically speaking, a player will come closer to his career mean, the more PA he has. Its just the way statistics work.

Swisher has almost half as many PA as Dunn using their career numbers. 26.3906% vs. 21.3779%,which is a 5% difference. They both strike out a ton. 171.5289 k's vs. 138.95635 k's at that rate for 650 PAs. Dunn is also a lot more productive than Swisher (.902 career OPS vs. .816). Baseball reference has their 162 game average for k's as 180 vs. 142.
