News ARod to have Hip Surgery?

Joe Girardi said ARod complained of hip stiffness last season, and he had his hip checked by a specialist in Colorado yesterday. According to his brother, immediate surgery was recommended to remove a cyst. Here is a story: New York Yankees Alex Rodriguez's brother Joe says A-Rod out 10 weeks - ESPN
Rehab could take up to 10 weeks, which could put the Yankees in quite a hole in the AL East. Who plays 3B during his absence?

Re: ARod to have Hip Surgery?

I have no idea who plays 3rd, you know there will people that say, he gets caught for roids, then suddenly he has a hip problem that will keep him out 10 weeks but I don't understand why he didn't have this surgery in the offseason if it was a problem last year.

But this certainly makes the Yanks the 3rd favorite in the AL now cause their lineup was already weaker before the ARod injury...i wonder if Joe Crede regrets signing that contract now?

Re: ARod to have Hip Surgery?

Why the hell would Joe Crede regret signing his contract? He makes decent money at a place where he can start the entire year and plays on the best team in his division. Not everyone wants to be on the Yankees or Red Sox.

I'd say this hurts the Yankees some, but if A-Rod comes back healthy in May, they're not in that big of trouble. They always start off slow anyways... The Yankees still have the best staff in the AL East, and have a few other decent players like Teixeira, Jeter, Damon, Cano, and Nady. I think they'll survive. Sure, it puts them in a hole to start the year, but it's not guaranteed that the Red Sox or Rays are going to immediately run away with it either. The Rays pitching staff has a lot of questions, and the Red Sox rotation drops off pretty dramatically after the third spot. So... yeah, it might put them a few games down. But don't think they're an under .500 team just because they lose A-Rod. I think that would be a mistake.

However, if he can't come back and problems linger, then the Yankees are in pretty big trouble. That's the big worry here.

Damn. I mean, it's shocking that we heard nothing about anything, and then all of a sudden, his hip bothered him to the point of major surgery. This will hurt the Yankees, but I don't think it'll cripple them to the point they can't come back....

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Crede could have used the Yankees as leverage to get more money, didn't necessarily have to go there, also to say the Yankees have the best staff isn't a given at all considering the health problems at the 4/5 spots and a lack of depth. There lineup has a lot of questions and no Arod is a big problem, in the Al East u can't afford to have him out 6 weeks

Re: ARod to have Hip Surgery?

If Rodriguez was having problems with his hip last season, why didn't he just get this taken care of last season? With him being the richest man in baseball you would think the Yankees would have at least a few doctors to look at it.... and not some doctor in Colorado discovering the problem four weeks before play begins. The specialist should have been called in ASAP for a player as important as he is to their lineup.

Re: ARod to have Hip Surgery?

It appears ARod may be out a bit longer. The tests showed a torn labrum in his hip. Surgery would keep him out 4-5 months, and he will possibly try to play through the pain again this season. Not likely he'll be able to do so. I would recommend surgery as soon as possible so his recovery and rehab can begin.

We weren't far back last year w/ a mediocre O and pitching. Our pitching is much improved, our lineup was looking better before the ARod injury. We can certainbly survive w/o ARod especially for a month or 2 but there have been conflicting reports on how long he'll be out. if he is out a while we can certainly win and it might be a better thing for us w/o the distraction of the daily ARod report.

Without question A-Rod should have the surgery now, so that he can be completely healthy for the most important month of the year for them: in October.

He is going to have arthroscopic surgery soon. He will only be out now 6 to 9 weeks. They hope this surgery can keep ARoid in the lineup for the rest of the season once he returns..

Re: ARod to have Hip Surgery?

This is a huge blow for the Yankees and adds yet another injury risk to a lineup filled with them. Teixeira now has no real protection in that lineup to start the season and its no given Arod will be back. The offense just got worse and the Yankees have no real replacement for ARod. Arod will join Posada and Matsui as everyday guys with injury risks. The only good of this will be the Arod steroid talk will go away for the start of the season.
