Yankees non-tender Britton and Christian

RHP Chris Britton and OF Justin Christian were non-tendered according to the Yankees. That makes them free agents.
The 40-man roster is now at 38 pending the addition of CC Sabathia and A.J Burnett.

Britton always seemed like a decent middle reliever who just got stuck in a bad spot. Christian was nice depth and a useful 4th\5th outfielder. Nothing we'll miss too much though.

I'm confused why they would do this with Britton. He has always been pretty decent, and they could use pen guys right now. Not a huge blow though

I think it's the depth they have in the minors, including Sanchez, Albaladejo, Melancon, Robertson and then some. It's one area they have some people to play with.

That makes sense. But I'd rather be careful with those guys in the minors, especially Melancon. I want to take our time with him

Oh, they are playing it safe with Melancon. It was amazing when he pitched back to back days at one point. He'll likely be up this season, and he'll be ready for it, it won't be a rush job.

Britton is the definition of excess, they don't need him.
