Dry, I agree with you to an extent, but who's to say that Posada can a) handle catching everyday now that he's another year older. b) is going to stay healthy. and c) he's still gonna need to DH a significant amount, which kicks those other guys out of spots.
OK. Well to me........this deal sucks. I mean, Swisher will be decent at best. His defense is passable. To me the most telling thing about the deal is that the Yankees are out of the race for Teixeira. Swisher will be playing 1B. Which I'm not particularly ok with. He's not going to hit above .260, and has above average power and average OBP. We can't win with that at 1B.
I don't love Swisher but...I'd certainly rather have him than Wilson ****ing Betemit, that's for sure.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.
Ah, give me something clever to say here.
The only positive I can see taking out of this is that, while they may as well acknowledge they're not getting Tex....there has to be a reason they're not getting Tex. Maybe the reason is because they're gonna drop the blank check to sign CC, and they figure that with the better starting pitching, the lineup won't need as much pop. Maybe?
I never saw Teixeira leaving the Angels. This only ensures it.
His 1B FP is .994 for his career. His RF there is league average. He's no GG, but he's also a million times better than Giambi there.
Fact is for what we were paying Jason he wasn't worth it. He'd need to hit .315 with 40 HRs to make up for that defense. He didn't.
Swisher is a solid option. Ask Prov. He definitely liked Swisher.
More importantly, this means we're going to sign two pitchers. Mark my words. We might move Matsui too.
I don't see a team taking on Matsui, sorry. And I'm sure Prov liked Swisher before he hit .219 last year(I believe that was the lowest in the league of players who qualify).
Marshall: MILSWANCAs?
Ted: Wait, I can get this. Mothers I'd like to sleep with and never call again.
Barney: Circle gets the square!

Swisher barely outhit Sexson last year for christ's sake!! I am just very disappointed if they think this was the best they could do at first base or centerfield. I do like them getting younger and cheaper but there were plenty of other guys out there for the Yankees to snag that were better all around hitters on the cheap. No doubt the Yankees will improve their rotation. I just hope they use their brains first and wallets second.
