ESPN - Chamberlain placed on DL; Kennedy to start vs. Angels - MLB
This is not good news. Especially since they give no specifics. Although this will probably be hated by everyone, I am interested to see Pavano start.

This from Brian Cashman: Chamberlain has what is being described as rotator cuff tendinitis. He will be rested for “about a week” and then start a throwing program after being evaluated again.
He will return to New York.
Just for your own reference: “tendinitis” is a nice way to say he has a little tear in his rotator cuff.
Joe Girardi said before the game he was optimistic Joba would play again this season. But a rotator cuff issue is nothing to mess around with. Don’t expect to see Chamberlain any time soon this season, if at all.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.
Maybe starting him the whole year would have worked out better. You know, getting that arm in shape and all? Not such a silly argument is it now?Originally posted by perforatededge54 in regards to Joba being mishandled:
Okay Reefer, we'll let Joba start the season in the rotation and throw 200 innings. Good idea. I'll bill you on the Tommy John or rotator cuff surgery. Sound fair?
It is...even one of the ESPN analysts said it was. He has a history of injuries so that is a better explanation.
Well, we know all ESPN analysts are gospel.

Its not a silly argument anymore nor was it ever. Going from reliever to starter is a lot harder than starter to reliever and it does take a toll on your arm. Look at guys like Smoltz a few years a go and Dempster this year. They both relieved the year before but knew going into the offseason they were starters and could train as such. Smoltz did very, very well and Dempster is having a career year. Both had arm injuries the years before. Joba was best served starting the year as a starter if that is what they wanted in the first place.
Rumors have it Joba will come back as a reliever again
I agree he should have started as a starter.

But Joba had injury history, and thus should have been treated with even more care...It was very risky to change his role mid season, and we'll never know if it was the reason, but Joba did get hurt...
Yesterday rumors were swirling it was bad and he could miss '09 and today things sound a little better but we should know soon.
