Why isn't A-rod playing SS while Jeter is out instead of Alberto Gonzalez?
Why isn't A-rod playing SS while Jeter is out instead of Alberto Gonzalez?
Because its five seasons too late to do that now. ARod needs to stick at third and get better there.

What he said. Plus it's always nice to give another young kid a look.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.
Ah, give me something clever to say here.
How about so when Jeter comes back, there isn't the whole "move Jeter to third base" drama again...I think that's a pretty good reason why.

Pittsburgh Pirates Record: 3-2. 1st NL Central
Well I'm not saying move to SS permanently, just for the time being while Jeter is out, plus SS position is more valuable then 3B.
It would only be a story if the players/manager listen to what the NY media has to say, the whole Yankee organization knows that its Jeter position.
Who would play third base if you move Alex Rodriguez to short?

Wilson Betemit would play 3rd, but then it begs the question why wouldn't Betemit just play SS? But I'm happy, because Gonzalez is showing that he is completely capable in the major leagues, so he's definitely a keeper in my mind. He's the only freakin Yankee who's showing any sign of being able to hit with RISP.
^^^^ I was just about to say that. And yeah I understand get the young guys playing time and what not, but isn't the rule of thumb that you should get the young guys playing time when your "out of it" when your season is pretty much over? I mean yeah there are few exceptions to the rule.
So it comes down to who's better between Wilson Betimit and Alberto Gonzalez, not necessarily what positions Alex Rodriguez is capable of playing.

Arod isn't the best third baseman but why **** him up with switching a position yet again even for just a couple of games. Leave him where he is and get him as many reps as possible. Arod has made big strides at third since moving there.
I normally would agree with you, but I think in this situation you don't need to move A-Rod over to short because Betemit could play short. But clearly Girardi, Cashman, and the Yankees scouts saw something in Gonzalez.
That is the rule of thumb, but this isn't a case of getting a young guy playing time. This is a situation where one of your best players went down with an injury, and you need to find the most capable replacement. That replacement just so happens to be a young guy.
I read somewhere that if it was to be a long term injury for Jeter then the Yankees would consider moving AROD over there. However since that is not the case here, they are not. Plus Gonzalez has been great.
