How the rain delay affects the rotation
Tonight's rain delay most likely means you'll Pettitte during the day tomorrow and Mussina at night.
Going forward that means that we have Igawa on Friday, Wang Saturday and on Sunday most likely Rasner. What will be interesting is who pitches on Monday as I'm sure Torre won't pitch Andy or Moose on 3 days rest.
The two most likely candidates are Matt DeSalvo and Tyler Clippard. DeSalvo, 26, is undergoing something of a prospect reclaimation year after a disasterous season in 2006. Clippard, 22, is a soft tossing righty with good control but lacking stuff (fastball is mostly high-80s, he can dial it up to 92 when needed). Still Clippard is a top pitching prospect and it will be interesting to see if he gets the call.
Their AAA numbers so far this year:
IP H BB K HR ERA
DaSalvo: 25.2 15 13 23 0 1.05
Clippard: 26.1 27 11 26 2 3.08
Personally I'd like to see Clippard because, as you can see, DeSalvo has trouble finding the plate on occasion. No matter who's called up it should be fun.
