TAMPA, Fla. -- New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner plans to attend next month's Kentucky Derby to watch his horse Bellamy Road run.
The big bay colt was dazzling in earning a 17-length victory on April 9 in the 1 1/8-mile Wood Memorial, New York's major prep race before the Derby.
"I'm going to go up for it," Steinbrenner said Wednesday.
The Florida-bred Bellamy Road was purchased for $87,000 last year at a sale in Ocala, Fla. The son of Concerto won his only other start this year by 15 lengths in an allowance race at Gulfstream Park.
Bellamy Road will be Steinbrenner's fifth Derby horse. His first starter, Steve's Friend, was fifth in 1977. Diligence, in 1996, and Concerto, in 1997, finished ninth, and Blue Burner was 11th in 2002.

I hope for the Boss' sake that his horse wins the kentucky Derby and the Triple Crown. I am afraid what will happen if or "when" this team doesn't bring home the World Series title.
