He will get $21 M for 2 years, after passing a physical, a much better deal then the qualifying offer from the Rockies of
$15.3 million. Good luck to Mike.

Because any time you can forfeit a first round pick for the right to sign a 36-year old outfielder who missed substantial time the last three years, you have to do it.

It's the right move for a number of reasons:
1) The Mets' farm has been built to the point where, if any system can survive one missed draft, it's this system this year. I don't like giving up the pick, but it's far from a deal-breaker.
2) The Mets needed an OF (okay, his defense is bad, whatever) who can hit in the middle of the lineup. That didn't exist elsewhere. People have mentioned Aoki and Rios....Aoki is not a lineup fit unless the Mets acquire a masher at SS. Rios makes more money than Cuddyer.
3) The financial side of the deal is borderline a bargain.
4) Cuddyer's injuries have been somewhat overstated. He's average 122 games per year from 2010-2014. If there's an outlier of a season, it's last year. I don't expect him to play 140 games, because he's 35 and whatnot, but the assumption that he'll miss 90 is probably misguided too.
