Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Mets are close to signing free agent infielder Ronny Cedeno to a one-year deal worth $1.1-1.2 million.
It confirms an earlier report from a Venezuelan newspaper and provides additional detail by giving the dollar figure. Cedeno has batted just .246/.286/.353 across 701 major league games, but he's regarded as a solid defensive shortstop and also offers some versatility. He would be used in a utility role.
