According to Metsblog.com, the Mets have signed Wily Mo Pena.
I'm not sure why. I guess as a Minor League deal it's fine, but it doesn't make too much sense.

Because Daniel Murphy can't catch a cold?
Murphy's actually not that bad, considering he's only played in LF for like 40 games. He had one error. His range isn't excellent, but he's workable, especially considering his hitting ability.
Pena's development track was all screwed up due to being forced into the majors as stipulated in his contract. He is no longer super young, but a good hitting instructor and a full season in at AAA might give the Mets a cheap bat with pop to use as a PH next season.

He's only 27, so I guess there's hope he can be a decent bench hitter, but I'm not sure that NY is the place for him to become that. Who knows, all depends on how he takes his trip to AAA ball.
They should promote him and release Sheff now that 500 is out of the way.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.
Ah, give me something clever to say here.
