Mets released RHP Duaner Sanchez.
Sanchez's velocity has yet to come back since suffering a separated shoulder in a 2006 car accident and by releasing him the Mets get out from under all but $276,339 of his $1.688 million contract. He was reasonably effective last season despite diminished raw stuff, going 5-1 with a 4.32 ERA in 66 appearances, so Sanchez should latch on elsewhere as a middle reliever. Bobby Parnell is now more likely to earn a spot in the Mets' bullpen.
Angel Pagan underwent surgery to repair a bone spur in his right elbow on Wednesday and is expected to miss six to nine weeks.
Regardless of whether or not he makes it back on the front end or back end of that timetable, odds are that Pagan will initially spend time in the minors upon his return.
