Sean Green is nothing special while Jeremy Reed is a 4th OF'er at best.Awful, just awful. The Mariners gave up the three best players in this trade and got jackshit in return.
The Mariners traded a good closer (which they have no use for since they suck) for a nice looking OFer in Franklin Gutierrez.
Pretty even trade.
Putz is better than Rodriguez, this is an amazing deal for the Mets if Putz wants to be a setup man rather than close.
Yeah, Putz isn't better than Krod but whatever. I got numbers to back that up if you'd like I don't know what to make of the trade. Mets clearly have made major steps to improved that bullpen and in getting a top five closer and now a closer who will be an excellent setup man. Mariners are getting Guttierez who can help right away, Heilman who can start if the Mariners choose to make Morrow their closer, Mike Carp who is a 22 year old first baseman with some pop in his bat, Endy Chavez who would be a 4th or 5th OF and three more minor leaguers who probably won't find the Majors. The Indians got a solid reliever to help their disaster of a bullpen and a second baseman coming off a good year at AAA. I like the trade from all sides really.
Mariano Rivera is now the 3rd best closer in New York City.
I agree with most of what you said. The thing is, Carp is young and does have pop, but from all I've heard from scouts and such, he is a DH in the making. No speed, no defensive ability. Pretty much, he's on track to be Jason Giambi with less plate discipline and less power.
Then Carp could make a good DH for the M's.
That he could....just saying that giving him up was a no-brainer for the Mets. I mean, he's a solid prospect, but didn't seem to fit with the Mets.
Have you seen Franklin Guttierez play?
His defense is better than Ichiro's. He's a game changer.
You can rephrase it all you want. Its still not true.
In '06 & '07 Putz blew a total of 9 saves. In Rodriguez's "great" year last year he blew 7. Putz had a 1.38 ERA 2 years ago, Rodriguez has never come close to that. Putz's WHIP was .92 and .70 in '06 & '07, Rodriguez has never been under 1 as a closer.
Rodriguez has had the better career b/c he has pitched longer but Rodriguez was never as dominat as Putz' 2 best years before he got hurt and if he is healthy he's better than Rodrigiez who built his career off of 1 really good postseason as a setup man.
Putz's career ERA is 3.09, Krod's is 2.35. Better career=better closer. The fact that Putz isn't healthy makes Krod better. Quit being a hater
