Orlando Hudson Prefers the Mets?

A source says that second baseman Orlando Hudson's first choice is to be a Met. The Mets would likely have to trade Luis Castillo before signing Hudson.

According to Andrew Marchand's blog at espnradio.com, Orlando Hudson's number one choice is to sign with the Mets. I like Hudson, the question is if they could bring him in without trading Castillo. There's a shot, but I don't know for sure.

No idea. I think that it would be a lock that the Mets sign Hudson if they had been able to trade Castillo, but I still think that with the money coming off the books, the Mets will most likely still make a HUGE play at Hudson...

Then the Mets would be be paying for two managers, two closers (when they get one) and two second baseman. That's just bad money management.

But with a stadium naming rights contract, a new stadium, a broadcast channel, and alou, pedro, and all that money off the books, i think they could afford it.

I have no doubts they can afford it, just don't see them wanting to pay all these men.

Well, they need a 2B more than any other offensive position. So if they're gonna pay a hitter, why not make it Hudson?

I think LF is more of a pressing need than second base. And they are already paying a hitter, Castillo. I just don't think the Mets want to pay all that money for one position when they will have to do that already at closer, even if they have the means to do it. Spread the wealth around the diamond.

I understand your point, but they just resigned Tatis with the intention of platooning him with Murphy. If they bring in an LF, they have no space for Murphy to play. Murphy impressed them so much last year that him ending up on the bench would make ZERO sense. Not to mention that the Mets have only been linked with one LF, and I don't see TOO big an interest in Ibanez.

Agreed, but Castillo is complete crap. Tatis and Murphy are serviceable. I'd rather replace the shit than the mediocre.
