Oliver Perez, the young lefty starter for the Mets is a free agent after this year, so I'm sure that many will call this just a contract year hot streak, but Ollie seems to be finally figuring out how to pitch successfully. Oliver, however, has very strange splits:
Perez under Rick Peterson: 5-4, 72.1 IP, 40 ER, 63 K
Perez under Dan Warthen: 3-3, 63.2 IP, 19 ER, 60 K
Perez against teams OVER .500: 7-0 W/L
Perez against teams UNDER .500: 1-7 W/L
Intriguing that he does better against better teams. Firstly, do you think that Oliver Perez may finally be learning to be more consistent? Secondly, where do you think he ends up next season? Will he be back with the Mets, or will he be rich from his FA contract.
Personally, I believe he'll go somewhere else, mainly because his agent is Scott Boras. I hope the Mets keep him, but it won't be easy.
