Pedro doesn't need speed anymore to be good. Pedro has been all about movement much like Greg Maddux has been so I'm not worried about his velocity. Pedro now has all the pressure taken off of him with the Santana trade. I expect Pedro to have a good season, nothing great but only if the Mets take care of him and give him the necessary rest.In his spring debut, Pedro Martinez threw four shutout innings and struck out four Sunday as a Mets split-squad beat a Tigers split-squad.
Martinez reportedly touched 91 mph on the gun, though he was generally closer to 87-88 mph with his fastball. He said afterwards that his changeup was better than his curve. He threw 58 pitches, which is enough to keep him on pace to start the second game of the season.
