Compensation..I'm excited. I feel the ghost of Nick amongst us!

This is not set in stone because if the offseason comes and I use these numbers and some should-be obvious free agents don't get what I feel they should get I may tweak the numbers to have them make more sense. (But, whatever I end up going with this offseason will be what I go with from then on)
Anyway, for the time being, these are the numbers I plan to go with.
After I add up all the point totals of the free agents I'll figure out the criteria for the point total threshholds for each catagory.
Even if I have to tweak the criteria, though, it'll be something similar to those lines. A point system that takes into account both performance and ratings and the total point level determines type A, B, or no comp.
Also, the position of the prospect gained will be the same position as the free agent lost.

I was just randomly thinking when I was looking at the draft pool for Porter's league and how he has them ranked by rating total.... like a 9-7-7-7-7 guy is a 37 and a 8-9-8 guy is a 25. Maybe their rating total can be useful in determining compensation level.

That's not a bad idea either. I might tweak the ratings part to just have a point total for different ratings totals.

Honestly, I think you could tweak things season by season just cause draft classes always vary and there's always going to be fluke occurrences (like a great rated player has a bad season, or a not good rated player has a career year or something)

I think Overall Rating Points, Avg/OBS/HR or SB (whichever is higher)/RBI should be the hitting categories, and then Overall Rating Points, ERA/WHIP/Wins/Quality Starts for Starters, and Overall Rating Points x 2 /ERA/WHIP/Saves for Relievers...
I'm bored so I'm going to see if I can put something together into a table next hr or 2 for these categories

Now that we have a season's worth of stats in the books I may come up with some more solid criteria within the next few days, but feel free to post your ideas if you have any. Nothing will be final on this until I roll the season over.
Thing should hopefully be more solid going into the 2048/49 offseason and beyond, but for the meantime I'm satisfied giving people something this year, regardless of how by the string of my pants it's ran since anything is still better than the nothing we used to get.

Will a regular middle reliever qualify?
There's no "superstar" catagorey, just teir A and B and no comp. i don't envision any comp pick being as good as the player lost as that would kill much of the incentive to retain him and risk making the league too deep. But teir A will still net better prospects than teir B.
I do appreciate the help CJ. I dont know if your charts will be final but ill at least incorporate them as a gague.

I just think you should reconsider on the superstar category... thats why I put it in there... if you look it out we are talking 1st Ballot MSL HOF'ers are the only ones who'd qualify for superstar status and if one of those gets into FA i think it would be worthy to make the team give up their 1st round pick (in additon to extra created spec) that not only makes superstars worth more but also wouldn't skew league balance too much

so long as RPs generally aren't "A"s, that's a big part of why MLB got rid of the A and B rankings. Not to mention in this league it's been often stated RPs generally have low value.
