Also, there is no such thing as a 1st ballot HoF in OOTP. The HoF is based on statistic minimums. If the player surpasses the requirements, they make as soon as they retire. There is no voting. There's no way to change to voting either.
This is why I usually try to develop the heart of my order and at least top 2 pitchers. So that I don't have to take the big risk, in most of the other leagues you'd never see me bid on as many guys (especially when my teams are going good) in free agency. I always had to make sure in this league that I filled my holes which were numerous (and big) because the last guy developed by my farm was Burdette, most of the rest were traded to fill other holes or died before I could.

I'm not telling you or anyone else to try it. I was only saying what I'd do if I felt I needed another power hitter, had the 1st to give up, and had room for him.
Unfortunately for CJ, it seems the only person willing to give up the 1st for him has no need for him or his contract and doesn't have a 1st to trade even if he did.

Prov! You and I are on the same page here!!! Though by argument is, what does it matter if they're a hall of famer? 1) you don't get anything for it and 2) its an aged hall of famer. Even in 3 seasons when his skills have dropped are you still going to try and sell the player as a first ballot hall of famer?
The point is that superstars last longer than the average player... i mean the debate is pointless, HOFers also give you market points which leads to millions of $$$$... and your getting 3 seasons of stud performance to win you a WS...
But it really doesn't matter, makes no sense for me to trade him for less so he'll just retire an A
