Most players who get signed in free agency are, by nature, overpaid.
Of course, many typically are underpaid before they hit free agency (see: Trout) so it often (but not always) balances out I suppose.

the fact that phil hughes gets paid to play baseball annoys me. i dont care whether hes underpaid, overpaid, or correctly paid... his face annoys me. his stupid curveball annoys me. his declining velocity fastball annoys me. the chance that another fan base can be as annoyed by him as i am, makes me somewhat happy... but not all the way happy.

Hughes is probably just as happy to get out of there as Ham and Mach are to see him go, sometimes a change of scenery is good for both sides.
In retrospect, the Phil Hughes signing was the best move the Twins' brass made this year. He has pitched pretty well for a bad team.
