oh! my bad.
I've had some time to think about the deal and am more disappointed with it than I was when I first read about it. The Mets gave up quite a bit of their talent for Johan, but the Twins have nearly everything the Mets gave them in the deal. Gomez may not be better than Priddie. Guerra may not be better than Swarzak. Humber and Mulvey are likely not as good as Slowey and Baker. The Twins did get some depth and certainly got more than a draft pick for Johan, but they turned down better deals from the Yankees and Red Sox.
I understand the same thing, but those deals were on the table at one time. Ellsbury was the center piece of one deal from the Red Sox and Lester was the other. Phillip Hughes/Melkey Cabrera and some prospects were in the deal the Yankees offered. Any of these offers would have been better than this deal. This is why I say the Twins turned down better deals.
The Yankees had a 4-player deal on the table, but Minnesota asked for more and that was that.
It was likely better than the deal the Twins ultimately accepted for Johan, though.
You come back to me when Matt Garza's a number 2 starter.
I'm pretty sure Matt Garza is now a #2 pitcher
But that probably has more to do with the fact that he's now pitching for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays....err, I mean Rays than his ability as a pitcher.
So that will be the same day Young actually hits 20 HRS and walks 30 times? Come to me then:laugh: Rays needed pitching so there is no steal. Young is no sure thing. Garza will likely be #3 behind Kazmir and Shields. I guess come back to me when Young that elite OF:laugh: I will probably see you sooner than you will see me:)
I'll get back to you when he does, sure thing:)
That deal seemed a lot fairer than the Santana deal.
