The Minnesota Twins didn't add any players but did subtract their starting second baseman at the trade deadline. And after watching his front office's inactivity, ace Johan Santana reportedly didn't hide his disappointment.


"It's not just about hope," Santana told The Star Tribune. "In a realistic world, you have to really make it happen and go for it.


"You always talk about future, future. ... But if you only worry about the future, then I guess a lot of us won't be part of it," Santana told the newspaper.

I would agree with him about this. The Twins did not really do much of anything at the trading deadline. I just hope Casilla works out this time, and that the team resigns Hunter to a long-term contract. If both happen, Santana will stay. Otherwise, he'll be in another uniform in 2009. That would be a shame.

Really though, this isn't a good sign here and something the Twins need to be proactive about correcting in the offseason. Obviously one player normally shouldn't dictate the moves of the team, but Santana's frustration is I am sure felt by most Twins fans and if they lose Torii Hunter in the offseason as well... I wonder how Johan will feel.

Yep, I gotta stand the line behind Santana. He is voicing his concern with his team. I'm surprised in Ryan. He used to be aggressive in pulling trades in before the deadline. It has lately became quiet for last 2 years, which has worried me a bit as a Twin fan.

The Twins are in the hole right now because Hunter is a potential free agent. Justin Morneau might as well as gone before u blink your eyes. Things are doing downhill faster, in terms of roster moves.

I bet Twins fans love Johan, but he has every reason to be upset. It's like they're going through a rebuilding stage every year. I can understand if the Twins go through a firesale and start from scratch, but they've been contenders for the AL Central for a while.

There is not going to be a firesale. Twins will do what they always do, which is nothing at all. We will continue to work the farm system and pull up the gems.

Santana thought might just be angry enough to not want to resign. If that is the case we are in serious trouble.
