Damn fine outting from Francisco Liriano again today, pitching 7 innings, fanning 6 and giving up only 1 hit. Twins win 4-0 and take the series from Baltimore.
Mauer had an offday today, only going 1-4 from the plate, lowering his season average to .386 (we'll allow it ), still 20 points ahead of the next best guy in the majors.
Back to Liriano, since moving from the bullpen, he's 4-1. His innings pitched has moved up as well, going from 5 innings a game for the first two games, 6 innings the next two outtings and now to his best of 7 innings today. He's got 24 SO's in 5 starts. Not great, but definitely nothing to complain about. If he can keep it up and we can keep this cat on the payroll with Santana for the next half dozen years or more, we could have the best 1-2 punch in all of baseball.
These two guys, Mauer and Liriano are two of the very few brightspots on an otherwise really really crappy season.
