Brian Moehler allowed three runs through seven innings to beat the Cubs on Wednesday and improve to 2-4 this season.
Since beginning the year with a 9.76 ERA in six starts, Moehler has turned in three straight quality starts. Of course, those have come against the Pirates, Rays and Cubs, three of the four worst offenses in baseball to this point. Moehler is still to be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Taylor Tankersley struck out four in two hitless innings of relief for Double-A Carolina on Wednesday.
Tankersley has a 1.09 ERA and five saves for Carolina. He's given up 11 hits, walked 13 and struck out 37 in 24 2/3 innings. Expect the left-hander to make his major league debut at some point within the next couple of months

AA? Don't tell me they're gonna call him up in a cost cutting move...

Reggie Abercrombie broke up Tom Glavine's no-hitter with a sixth-inning double on Saturday and picked up two more hits in the loss to the Mets.
Abercrombie had been in a 5-for-32 slump that pushed his average back down to .230. He's displayed outstanding power when he's been able to get ahold of pitches this season and he's done well for the most part during May, but he's still not making contact consistently enough to suggest that he's ready to be a quality regular

Triple-A Albuquerque's Jason Vargas gave up nine runs and four homers in four innings on Sunday.
Vargas gave up three runs in 11 2/3 innings in his first two starts after being demoted, but his struggles yesterday likely eliminated what chance there was of a quick return to the majors.

Marlins have good young players! There are going to win some games.

Todd Wellemeyer is expected to be released on Friday when the Marlins activate Carlos Martinez from the disabled list.
Wellemeyer, who is out of options, was acquired in a trade with the Cubs during the off-season. He has a 5.38 ERA in 21 1/3 innings this season. He will likely be picked up by another team who needs bullpen help

Marlins purchased the contract of LHP Taylor Tankersley from Double-A Carolina.
Tankersley, a 2004 first-round pick, had a 0.95 ERA and a 40/14 K/BB ratio in 28 1/3 innings for Carolina. If he pitches well, he could quickly move into a setup role.

Dontrelle Willis finally earned his second win by allowing two runs over seven innings against the Rockies at Coors Field on Friday night.
Although he's pitched well lately, Willis had been 0-6 with two no-decisions since beating the Nationals on April 14. Tonight's game was the fourth straight in which he's given up just two earned runs. He has a 2.40 ERA during that span.

General...I don't think the problem is Dontrelle Willis. I think it is the team around him and management! Do you agree or do you think there is another problem?

  14. #89
I agree that management and lack of veteran leadership is a problem for the Marlins, Willis' performances have done little to help their won-loss percentage this season.

Scott Olsen picked up a win by holding the Rockies to three runs in 6 2/3 innings of work on Sunday.
Olsen gave up six hits and walked one while striking out three. The Marlins won the game 4-3 and Olsen got the win, but it easily could have gone the other way. Matt Holliday was called out at home by umpire Jeff Nelson for the first out in the seventh, but replays showed Holliday was actually safe. The Rockies scored only once in the inning and stranded a pair of runners, so Olsen should consider himself lucky. He'll get the Padres at Petco Park next time out, so he's worth using in NL-only formats.
