Marlins Reportedly Have "Handshake Agreement" To Sell Team - MLB Trade Rumors

10:27am: The Marlins have a “handshake agreement” in place to sell the team to a New York-based real estate developer for the price of $1.6 billion, reports Mike Ozanian of Forbes.

The $1.6 billion price tag would be more than 10 times the $158MM price at which owner Jeffrey Loria purchased the team back in 2002.

ESPN's Darren Rovell identified Charles Kushner (Ivanka Trump's father-in-law) as a NY-based real estate developer who was in the bidding, but Jon Heyman says Kushner is not involved in the handshake deal.

if the sale of the team does ultimately go through, Loria will have paid just $15.5MM of the $325MM that is owed to star right fielder Giancarlo Stanton on his exceptionally backloaded 13-year contract.

Of course Loria was never going to be the owner who owes Stanton all that money.

So it turns out Jared Kushner's older brother was the bidder, but now he's backing out because he doesn't want risk jeopardizing Loria's nomination by Trump to be the ambassador to France, with quid pro quo accusations. Which is silly since the quid pro quo accusation is all about Loria's $125,000 donation to Trump's campaign.

So Loria couldn't be nominated as ambassador to France, so #45 nominated...Jamie McCourt. Jamie Fucking Marie "Let Them Have Fucking Cake" Antoinette McCourt. And guess who is the current owner of one of the storied futbol franchises in France? Those poor Frenchies.

And Loria's agreed to sell the team to the Jeter group. Jeter, whose investment made up a whopping 2% of the bid, gets control of baseball operations. Because that worked out so well with Nolan Ryan and his partners with the Texas Rangers.
