I am fortunate enough to be in one of those markets where I get 2 teams full TV schedules, the Rays and the Marlins. The kid is a beast, offensively and defensively, he has been a bit injury prone thus why he hasn't played more than 150 games. It remains to be seen if he'll live up to it, just like any of the others, more of these contracts have failed than succeeded.

From what I read, if he were to opt out after 6 which the earliest he can bail on the team, he'd lose out on a lot due to the contract being very heavy on the back-end rather than up-front. Something like 2/3 of the entire net worth of the contract is in the last 7 years.

I don't know diddly squat about this guy other than looking at his stats, and his stats do NOT scream "WE MUST give this guy $25M a year for 13 years", at least not to me.

WTF is so special about him? Good stats, not great, not super-star caliber by any measure I would consider.
