could be a number of things... attitude problems, consistent playing time, motivation... he is also a pretty one-dimensional player, and you can pitch to players like him a certain way and I'm sure certain pitchers pick up on it and it diminishes his output.
I will say this though, he's been on a complete tear lately.

I saw him play for the D'Rays a couple of seasons ago and he looked lost at the plate. Granted, he was facing Johan Santana in the Metrodome, but he definitely was not ready to contribute for them. He got a chance to grow up a bit and moved to the Marlins and he has done a nice job there.

Didn't Cantu suffer from foot problems for a couple of years?
Not sure, but he's had an up and down career. Maybe he'll show us next year which is the real Cantu. Personally, I hope its the one who doesn't hit multitudes of HR against the Mets...
