My blog entry concerning the NFL Draft

I like the idea of the draft being in primetime, but I do not like that it's going against the playoffs of two other major sports. Plus there's baseball. It's a good time to have DVR or a remote handy. But one wonders if Roger Goodell is attempting to become an iconic authoritarian like David Stern was previously? Then again, football generates the most bang for the buck amongst the four major sports, and NASCAR.
I am a diehard steeler fan. But I am not naive to ignore Big Ben's downfall off the field. He deserves the suspension, if only to serve as a wake up call. But what it does do, it fuels my hatred on how poorly things have been handled with other players. Before Goodell's reign, there was Lenard Little. During Goodell's reign, there is Donte Stallworth. Folks, let me introduce you to a pair of guys who have actually killed someone and it wasn't in self-defense. But they're still playing. Little barely received a slap in the face, Stallworth had a year suspension but was recently signed by the ravens. You killed someone, but welcome back to the NFL!
As for the steelers, if they deal Big Ben for a draft pick, I'll live and I will understand. Pittsburgh does vear away from controversy, it only makes sense. For the other rumors: drafting Tim Tebow? Honestly, if they used their first or second rounder on Tebow, my reaction will be.. jumping up and down in joy. Yes, I enjoyed watching this guy in college and I feel like this man has the best attitude and desire to succeed. He won't be Joe Montana, he may not even be Tom Brady, but something is there and Pittsburgh would be a great place to harness it.
If not Tim Tebow, here's my top 7 guys I'd like to see drafted by the steelers at some point:
1. Taylor Mays
2. Golden Tate
3. Devin McCourty
4. Eric Decker
5. Toby Gerhart
6. Myron Rolle
7. Arellious Benn
Now for the top 5 running sub plots besides Tim Tebow,
5. How will the Cincinnati Bengals screw up in round 1 this season? Remember they drafted flabby man boobs guy last year, he held out, then signed, and then got hurt for the year. Ultimately, they should deal every first rounder they have and stick to later rounds.
4. Jimmy Claussen. Some hate him, some love him. He's either a top ten pick or a 2nd rounder. We haven't had this much polar discussion since Brady Quinn and Aaron Rodgers. One of those worked out. What will happen? If the bills don't take him, I'd expect someone to trade in to the top 25 to draft him.
3. Realmofotalk's hatred of the Chargers and AJ Smith. What happens if the chargers nail their first two picks this season, will realmofotalk combust into flames? In retrospect, they do have holes to fill. Who's sharing the load with mini-me, who's replacing Cromarte, are they satisfied with the WR's outside of Jackson and Gates, and do they had more to the front seven since they have had so many injuries over the recent years.
2. This was brought up on Bill Simmons' podcast with Michael Lombardi, Seattle and San Francisco own two first round picks. If either of those teams nail their choices, they may be the frontrunners for a weak division. Arizona has lost a lot, can they quickly repair? The rams will be a non contender again, as they either break in Bradford or run with draft bust Kyle Boller. Seattle and San Fran have glaring holes, but if the 49ers fix their like and their CBs, there's their chance. If Seattle fixes a stagnant offense and stays healthy, they too have a chance.
1. Detroit and Oakland. Granted, Matt Millen is gone and Detroit did a fine job last season with Stafford, Pettigrew, and Delmas. But it's still Detroit, they won't pass on McCoy or Suh right at #2 right? Do they go for Berry and shock us all? Do they go outside the top 4 talents and shock us even more? Standing at 8 is Oakland, unfortunately for us it's not a higher pick but it's still in a range where they drafted DHB and Michael Huff, neither have made a professional impact. Does Claussen's cocky attitude sway Al Davis? Does he see how fast Jacoby Ford ran in the 40 and sell himself on the small receiver? Most mock drafts have them taking a lineman. Which they need. So that means, it's likely they don't draft a lineman. If Eric Berry falls, he's going here. If he doesn't, they're taking Claussen (and selling Russell to a whorehouse), Joe Haden, or Jason Paul Pierre.
