Here is how the candidates stack up.


1. Roy Halladay, Philadelphia Phillies



24 innings, 3-0, 1.12 ERA, 21 strikeouts, 2 walks

The Doctor is in the house. Halladay has to be the leader in the Cy Young race in the National League thus far. Through 3 starts, he has 3 wins and has logged a stupendous 24 innings. He was even held to a mere 7 innings in his first start after only 88 pitches because the game was so out-of-hand as the Phillies just wiped the floor with the Natinals on Opening Day. He could have easily gone the distance. The difference with the #2 guy on this list is that the Doctor has gone deep into games, and this is why he's currently #1.



2. Tim Lincecum, San Francisco Giants



20 innings, 3-0, 0.90 ERA, 24 strikeouts, 3 walks

Kid Reefer has the slight edge over the third guy in the race. He has been untouchable thus far. However, he has had to rely on his bullpen just a bit more as he hasn't gone over 7 innings in a start this season. But only 2 runs allowed on the season, which is very impressive.



3. Adam Wainwright, St. Louis Cardinals



24 innings, 3-0, 1.50 ERA, 21 strikeouts, 5 walks

I am typing this just as Adam Wainwright finishes a complete game win against the Mets on national TV. He was impressive. Wainwright has been so dominant this season and there is no reason to think he will slow down. Just compare his line to Halladay's and they are virtually identical. He is awesome.



4. Livan Hernandez, Washington Natinals



16 innings, 2-0, 0.00 ERA, 4 strikeouts, 5 walks

I cannot believe that I'm writing this, but Livan Hernandez is very much in the Cy Young race thus far. And it's 2010, not 2003. This is quite odd. Thus far, two weeks into the season, the Big Livan has not allowed a single run to score against him. He also has a complete game shutout to his credit. Somebody pinch me because this has to be a nightmare.



5. Ubaldo Jimenez, Colorado Rockies



21 innings, 3-0, 1.29 ERA, 20 strikeouts, 10 walks

Ubaldo Jimenez gets the final spot on the list over other potential guys like Brad Penny, Jaime Garcia, or (god help me) Carlos Silva, all of whom have had good starts to the season. Ubaldo, however, made history this week as the first Rockies pitcher to throw a no-hitter. With a complete game shutout under his belt, Ubaldo is very much in the Cy Young race.
