Today I went to the Marlins-Reds game. It was hot out, like really hot. I was able to snag a pretty good special though as the Reds had a 'tailgate' offer where you could $35 tickets for $25 with a free $10 concessions voucher. Sweet, huh? Problem was though that as I sat directly in the sun (curious that so many people were choosing to stand in the shade, next to the misting fans) I chose to sit in the sun and baked. Hell, there was even some woman about two rows down, eight seats over who had a gigantic black umbrella out (you should have heard some of what was yelled at her with her homeplate blocking device.)
But you know what? It didn't matter. Homer Bailey returned from the DL and even though he was a little P/AB happy, he had a great game allowing only three hits and no runs over six innings. And the bats? Pretty non-existent, but thanks to some surprise heroics from Miguel Cairo, the Reds added two and gave Bailey the run support needed for a win. Hell, even Cordero did his usual thing (scare everyone, somehow pull through with an S.) All in all, a good day. Sometimes you need to be in the traffic, getting sunburned, and paying $6 ****ing dollars for a soda. This is needed when you are lucky enough to have your team still in the race in August and for you to see the game where they retake first place. I am not posting this entry to gloat, just to say that it has been a long time coming for me as I dreamed for years about going to games like this that matter this late in the season.
This game mattered and it was great to see.
