I'd like to nominate Tony Clark and his 30 homeruns ... what is this 1997 all over again? Whodathunkit?

What about Chad Tracy and his .299 BA and 24 HRs.
Andruw Jones with 50 HRs?
Kevin Milwood leading the AL in ERA? WHO KNEW?
2003 Hybrid World Champion (115-47 reg season, 11-4 playoffs)
TBL: Anaheim Angels 2006-present (238-244 regular season, 1 division title)
MSL: St Louis Cardinals 2013-present (2734-2936 regular season, 5 division titles, 2 championships)
TSSL: Seattle Mariners 2006-2029, Pittsburgh Pirates 2030-present (209-277, 5 division titles w/SEA, 1 championship w/SEA)
Andruw Jones being an MVP canidate, period. To me that is shocking.
Derrek Lee a possible Triple Crown candidate...through the end of July.
Reds starter Aaron Harang has pitched 200+ innings with an ERA below 4.00. The last Reds starter to do that was Mr. Pete Harnisch back in 1998. If that stat doesnt epitomize the lack of quality starting pitchers the Reds have had, I don't know what will.

Another homer pick for me.. 18 rookies making an appearance for the Braves.
Also ... Jorge Sosa, a career 5.17 ERA with a lifetime record of 11-26 coming into the season ... dude is 13-3 with a 2.45 ERA!!!
Two words: Pitching Coach. Makes all the difference.

my homer nomination goes to Pedro Astacio
here's his numbers since joining the Padres
53.2 IP, 3.35 ERA, 30Ks, 25 walks with a 3-2 record.
not overly impressive, but much better than I ever expected.
If you take out his one bad start, his numbers look like this
3-1, 2.75 ERA, 28 Ks, 19 walks. 49 IP
he's had 9 starts and 2 relief appearances as a Padre, btw. (1 IP in relief, 2 games)

Here's another homer pick, Omar Vizquel leads the NL in fielding percentage amongst SS's.
How's that surprising?

Because no one gave him a chance and said he was too old.
