Which pitcher, reasonably, would you deal Delmon Young for, reefer?
Marshall: MILSWANCAs?
Ted: Wait, I can get this. Mothers I'd like to sleep with and never call again.
Barney: Circle gets the square!

I say reasonably because I doubt the twins would really move Santana for Young. But you get the idea.

Santana for Young should have never been said. You have to look at teams with outfield problems. Yankees, Cubs, Angels and Braves all fall under this category. Then you have to see if the D Rays are actually willing to spend money. Plus you have to see if Young improves at Triple A. Too many factors go into a decision like this. Cubs could use Young and could be willing to get rid of injury plagued Prior.
So why would the Rays trade Young for an injury plagued player? Maybe for Zambrano and a prospect not named Pie. Angels and Braves have nothing in terms of pitching that the D-Rays would want.
Well like I said until Young proves he can do well at a high level of baseball, you will have to wait and see what you can get. Kazmir and Prior leading a rotation would be the best 1-2 combo they have had. And as for the D Rays not wanting pitching, don't be stupid.
Braves have several quality pitching prospects. Maybe not one single pitcher as worthy of a Delmon Young, but they have something. Same for Anaheim. They don't exact;y have to move Young for someone that's ready right now. It didn't take them long to do that with Kazmir, so a guy like Jake Woods or Chuck James could be shifted into action real soon.

Ok, but what else are the Braves or Angels going to throw in? Trading for a potential #2-3 starter isn't worth the best prospect in baseball.
But the D Rays need some veteran leadership and an established pitcher. Casey Fossum is not that guy. Their rotation is horrendous and has been ever since they came into the league. They have always had good offensive players but no pitching. When is it time to change that? Young hasn't looked like the best prospect in baseball at triple A.
I think it'd be better to trade Upton.
They can use Upton. Lugo, Cantu and Upton is a dangerous infield. Gathwright, Crawford, Baldelli and Gomes makes a damn good, quick outfield.
Relying on Cantu and Gomes as your middle of the order hitters is just plain foolish.
Saying Tampa doesn't need Delmon is just foolish.
I really don't know any other way to put it. Delmon has a terrible attitude, but he is going to put up insane numbers throughout his career. He is as close to a sure thing as you can get, just like Felix last month. Delmon could end up being a top 5 player in a couple years.
Kyle Davies and Kelly Johnson for Delmon? I'd have to think about it.
