......nineteen-year-old Yoan Moncada has been declared a free agent by MLB. Once he is cleared by his country's government Office of Foreign Assets Control he is free to sign with a club. Which team will win the bid, how many will take the chance on going over their international caps and risk stiff penalties? Some of the leagues biggest spenders are already over their limit or pretty darn close. Moncada is being praised as an even better prospect then Yasmany Tomas who is rumored to be close to signing with a ML club very soon for upwards of $100 M or more. The guys from FanGraphs and Baseball America are salivating over Moncada's speed and power from both sides of the plate and that he could be penciled into any infield position.
I have heard murmurs that even the Rays could be in play, given that a kid that hasn't played more than 150 games (due to injury) a season has gotten the biggest contact in history and an ex-Devil Rays manager just got a $5M a year deal ...................anything is possible!
