Expanded playoffs start this season

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, MLB will announce expanded playoffs on Thursday.
It's about time. MLB commissioner Bud Selig pushed for expanded playoffs to begin this season, but the matter was held up for weeks in order to figure out scheduling. Under the terms of the new collective bargaining agreement, there will two wild card teams in each league instead of one. The two wild cards will then play each other in a one-game playoff, with the winner advancing to the Division Series.

It is going to be either very interesting or very boring around the trade deadline from here on out. Glad they finally made a decision.

Love the expanded playoffs, hate the one game format, hate the only one extra team.

I'd rather do like the NFL. Split it into 4 divisions (or 2 and do the winner of each gets the bye and then 4 wild card spots.)

I'm not saying NBA (8 teams) or NHL (8 teams). I'm saying you need to shorten the season, shorten Spring training, and add one playoff round.

Players don't like the extra days off and waiting so long in between series. That's been well documented. That structure you just laid looks like shit to me! Trying to copy a format where you only play one game is absurd to me. Thankfully it's not even being thought of by people of power.

By not playing ball for 4-5 days while other teams plays a best of 3? No, no team would want that. Teams complain when they have to wait 3 days between series.

Teams will complain about a hangnail. They have that type of break for the ASG. It wouldnt time the teams have a 3 day break. It happens in the current format anyway when they win a series early.

I like the one game better than having a three game series to determine a WC. That said, I don't like the extra WC. I wish it would go to three rounds of seven games rather than one best of five then two rounds of seven.
