The USA is 1-1 and they play South Africa tomorrow. If the USA beats South Africa, we will have a three-team tie in the standings at 2-1.
How do they break three-way ties? By Runs allowed per 9 innings. So even though Canada beat the USA head-to-head, Canada is eliminated. The USA and Mexico would move on. Way to go, Bud Selig, good job.

If you had won, you'd be in. You lost, we won, and then you lost the tie-breaker. It's just like the last game of the NFL season...teams end up tied and could have gotten in if they won, but they didn't and then lose subsequent tie-breakers. :ohwell: thems the breaks.
The NFL system of tiebreakers isn't about whether one team has scored more points than the other team, it's all based on won-loss (ex.: team A is 7-3 in conference play while team B is 6-4, etc.)
