So was the HR Derby as bad as you thought it would be?

A lot of people came into this derby thinking it was going to be a bore...no barry, sosa, griffey, palmero, or any memorable derby hitters.

As I was watching the derby last night...I saw a lot of things...I saw players proudly representing their country as they hit the long ball, and their fellow countrymen cheering them on.

I saw Bobby Abreu achieve the impossible, hitting 41 home runs in the derby. The guy has like 18 HR's on the year, and beats the likes of pudge, texeria, and others. The guy hasn't really finished with over 30+ home runs in a season, and he hits 41 in one night.

So my question to you people is was the home run derby as bad as you thought it would be with this new format?

I thought it was boring, but the Nationalism on display was the highlight of the evening. It almost made it all worth while.

It was hilarious watching the kids in the OF screw up. Haha, sounds mean, but that provided some comedy relief for me.

To be honest, I found it rather entertaining and it wasn't just because of Abreu hitting 24 bombs in the first round. I went into it with essentially negative feelings about the format since like many, I wanted the top homerun hitters there. But this format provided some new life and excitement to what was becoming a pretty bland event. It was fun to see their fellow countrymen cheer them on and get excited. I am sure the novelty of this format will wear down after a while naturally.... but for this year I think it was just what the derby needed. Abreu hitting those bombs in the old format wouldn't of been as memorable I don't think.

Also the guys with more homeruns didn't get very far...ie texiera and jones.

This year's home run derby was slightly better than the previous years, but overall, it was alright.

Abreu made it exciting to watch, and I liked how players cheered for their fewllow country men.

I still wish Choi wasn't there, I mean he just had no cred to be within 10 states of the allstar festivities. I am glad Pudge shocked people and went to the finals. People were really have fun there last night, and that's great after all the offseason shit baseball had to endure.

Bay is actually a good player. Maybe not Derby caliber, but he's far above Choi.

They should have brought in Matt Stairs to represent Canada. Not Morneau, not Bay, Stairs.

If they did that, it would have been 10/10, but it was still good. I hate the format since it does screw some more deserving players, but the nationalism was nice.
