Less than a month away, who gets traded and where?
My first guess, San Diego ships Heath Bell to someone in need of a closer. I'll say Florida.

Here's a crazy blockbuster with a little bit of logic behind it: Doc Halladay and Alex Rios to the White Sox. Kenny Williams has been shopping for a front end of the rotation RHSP, and Doc is probably the best of those that are healthy and could even possibly be available. The White Sox could also use a bat like Rios's for both the present and future, but his cost is prohibitive, and there have been rumors that the Blue Jays are trying to rid themselves of contracts. The White Sox have $40+ million coming off the books at the end of the season, and will likely be letting Thome, Dye, and Contreras among others hit free agency to have that happen, Rios could come in and fill the void in RF (not to mention move Dye to LF for now to hide his terrible defense and put Pods in CF so the BA/Wise nightmare platoon can end), Halladay fills in the rotation slot nicely, and the Sox could likely still afford to pick Dye back up and have him DH. As for the Blue Jays, it's probably their best option to clear some salary off the books, and the White Sox likely have a package of prospects that the Blue Jays would want, even though it would be painful to part with Poreda and more. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kenny Williams try to pull something like this off.

it doesn't look like Halladay is going anywhere.
Blue Jays may hold the keys to trade season - FOX Sports on MSN
my guess would be that if Halladay is traded at all, then it will be next season if the Jays aren't contending. he's signed through 2010 so I don't see the need to trade him now. they want to get to the playoffs with him and 2010 might be there last shot. So, who can the Jays trade? Well, let's look at it in a slightly different way: Who can't they trade?
Halladay, for one, isn't going anywhere. And I would be surprised if the Jays dealt starters Ricky Romero and Scott Richmond. Romero is a former first-round pick who provides a left-handed presence and is riding a streak of 20 scoreless innings. Richmond, the Canadian right-hander, has shown an ability to mix his pitches and should be a durable fourth or fifth starter. ("I can see the influence from Halladay in the way he pitches," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said last week.)
You know, on the subject of Halladay and his awesomeness, he's never pitched in a real meaningful game. I'd personally like to see what he would do starting a playoff game, obviously it would have to be for someone besides Toronto.

Looks like Doc Halladay might be available after all:
Look Ahead: With Blue Jays struggling, will Halladay be on trade block? - MLB - CBSSports.com Baseball
I'd think getting rid of a $12 million sunk cost through 2014 (on a player who's good, but doesn't really deserve $12 million) might be an incentive that would get them talking about moving Doc Halladay."We have to see what makes us better," he said. "Obviously, if people have interest in Roy Halladay, they'd better realize there's a steep price that's going to come with it."
It's not that much different from what Ricciardi has said before. If anything has changed, it's only that the fast-starting Jays have faded some, to the point where it's hard to see them being a true contender in the American League East.

it said they'll listen to offers, but teams will have to blow them away. they aren't actively shopping him and the White Sox don't have enough to get him anyway. again, I'll be shocked if he's moved. if he gets moved at all, it will be next season when he's a FA-to-be IMHO.
Halladay won't be moved. Scott Rolen on the other hand is all yours.

All that quote tells me is that they would trade him if someone came to them with an offer they can't refuse.
That doesn't sound like the quote of someone who's looking to actively shop him." he said. "Obviously, if people have interest in Roy Halladay, they'd better realize there's a steep price that's going to come with it."

"We have to see what's out there," Ricciardi said. "I'm not saying we're going to shop him. But if something makes sense, we at least have to listen. We're more toward listening than we've ever been."
