Question Gary Sheffield hits #500: does anyone care?

I can't remember a less ballyhooed 500th HR. Obviously it's early in the season and his first hit with the team and all that, but I just don't care and I feel like nobody really does. Am I wrong?
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

It's a huge deal and you should care. Your apathy is shameful.

#500 will always make news but the story just isn't there as it has been for many other recent players to the 500 club.

    - He didn't sign a big contract to hit it.
    - He isn't of long tenure with the Mets and the significance to that club is non-existence.
    - He is third oldest to hit #500 so the possibility for #600 is an all but guaranteed impossibility.
    - He isn't the most lovable of players whose #500 in the winter of their career would be a chance for the baseball world to pay tribute to him while still an active player.

Re: Gary Sheffield hits #500: does anyone care?

I don't think any of these are the right answer. The reason that I think there's no publicity over it(or at least not the amount that you were looking for Brownie), is for a couple simple reasons

    1) It's extremely early in the season
    2) It's the post-steroid era, we've seen a lot of guys(relatively) in the last 5-10 years hit their 500th, and then be proven to be roiders
    3) Sheff was (allegedly?) a roid user, who supposedly quit, and was ADDITIONALLY never friendly with the media. You won't get much media coverage if you don't get along with the media.
